
The City of East St. Louis has ordered a curfew for the city beginning Tuesday, June 2, 2020 from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. Beginning Wednesday, June 3, 2020 the curfew will be in effect from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. This curfew order will remain in effect until it is deemed safe to rescind.
“The past few days have resulted in conditions of disaster or extreme peril to persons and property nationwide,” stated City Manager Brooke Smith. “We are working hard to keep our community safe during these challenging times, and we urge everyone to abide by the curfew and remain indoors during those hours.”
The curfew orders that it shall be unlawful for anyone to be on the street or in public areas from 9:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. This order does not apply to public safety personnel, persons traveling to or from the hospital, or persons traveling to or from work.
“While the Council and I realize this may be an inconvenience for some, we must do everything within our power to protect our residents and corporate citizens from the violence and property damage we have seen throughout our country,” stated Mayor Robert Eastern, III.
