Fire Prevention / Arson Investigation Division

Responsibilities

The Fire Prevention/Arson Investigation Division provides inspection services for existing commercial business structures on an annual basis as required by City Ordinance. This division is also responsible for the timely investigation and determination of the cause and origin of all fires, the updating of fire prevention codes and the review of proposed construction plans. It is responsible for providing fire safety education, aimed at citizens of all age groups, with specific focus on two target groups (elderly and children) including elementary educational programs in the City schools and elderly housing complexes. Presently the inspection duties are handled in the form of in-service fire company pre-fire planning and identification of basic NFPA Life Safety Code requirements.
