Permits

Permits are required for a number of different projects in order to assure that these projects meet applicable Building Codes. The City of East St. Louis has adopted Building Codes in order to protect the health, safety and welfare of our residents.

Permit Required

Following is a list of projects that require a City of East St. Louis Building Permit. This list is not all-inclusive:

  • Concrete, Asphalt or Paver Brick Driveways, Sidewalks, Patios, Stoops and Stairs
  • Decks and Stairs
  • Demolitions
  • Doors and Windows if the Size of the Opening Changes
  • Extensive Interior Remodeling Work
  • Fences
  • Fire Sprinklers
  • Grading Changes, Retention Walls or Other Landscaping Involving Topographical Changes
  • Low Voltage Alarms and Phone Wiring
  • Mechanical Systems (Heating and Air Conditioning)
  • New Electric Service or Additional Devices Requiring New Lines
  • New Structures and Any Structural Changes
  • Plumbing (Water Heaters, Etc.)
  • Roofing, Re-Roof or Tear-Off
  • Sewer Repairs or Cleanouts
  • Sheds
  • Shoring and Foundation Repairs
  • Siding
  • Signs, Banners and Tents
  • Swimming Pools, Spas, Hot Tubs
