Economic Development operates under the City Manager`s Department.  The Economic Development Specialist is responsible for economic development programs and projects and works under the auspices of the City Manager.  

The City offers several incentives for developers, business owners and operators as well as entrepreneurs.  The City offers Tax Increment Financing, and it is located in the Federal Empowerment Zone.  Additionally, it is a State designated Enterprise Zone, and it is one of only four Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (ILDCEO) designated River Edge Redevelopment Zones (RERZ) in Illinois.  Each of these designations offers incentives to attract new development and to expand existing development.  Business retention funding is also available through the TIF Department.  Tax abatements may be requested through our Redevelopment Commission (RDC) for new development or for renovation to existing commercial or residential structures.  Our development friendly atmoshpere encourages the relocation of new businesses here is the City as well.
