The Honorable Emeka Jackson-Hicks was sworn in as the 25th and second female Mayor of the City of East St. Louis, IL on May 12, 2015.
Mayor Jackson-Hicks and her administration have, from day one, focused on growing East St. Louis' economy and improving public safety, public works and public education by strengthening city neighborhoods.
Jackson-Hicks was appointed to serve on the East St. Louis City Council as a councilwoman in 2009 to fill a seat vacated by her father, Eddie Lee Jackson, Sr., when he became a democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 114th District.
Jackson-Hicks was born in East St. Louis and grew up on St. Louis Avenue. She is the daughter of retired Illinois State Representative Eddie Lee Jackson, Sr. and Pearlie Jackson, a retired nurse. Jackson-Hicks attended elementary, junior and high school in East St Louis District 189. She graduated from The University of Illinois with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and earned her Master degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University.
Jackson-Hicks lives in East St. Louis with her husband, Demarius, and their sons Brandon and Christian. Their 23 month-old daughter, Anderson, passed away suddenly in December 2014.
In addition, she is an elder at New Jerusalem Seventh Day Adventist Church where she enjoys teaching, encouraging, affirming, loving and all that is involved with being a good parent, mentor and steward.
Jackson-Hicks has a profound love for her family and works tirelessly for the betterment of East St. Louis and its citizens. She advocates for children's rights and is very active throughout the region. Currently, Mayor Jackson-Hicks serves on several boards and committees:

- Mississippi River Cities & Towns Initiative - Member of Executive Committee
- Comptroller Susana Mendoza's Local Government Division(LGD) - Advisory Board Member
- East-West Gateway - Board Member
- Southwestern Illinois Council of Mayors (SWICOM) - Member
Jackson-Hicks, who enjoys listening to her husband's jazz band, cheering for her son, Brandon, at his basketball games, and is also an avid volleyball player and sports enthusiast.
She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
